This pile of 'Blockheads and Rainbows' is dedicated to Rene Navarrette.

He is 33 today! He's come a long way from his days as a salesman for 'Suregood Chicken and Biscuits'!!

Mystery 1. Why are Teardrops and Family having a pow-wow? What are they planning?

Mystery 2. Why does Rene have corn rows?

Mystery 3. Why are there wrapped gifts waiting for me when I get home?

Mystery 4. What is 'Mike's Steam Machine'?

And finally, Mystery 5. Why does Lil' Nate look so at home with champion figure skater, Bryan Rabin?

My teeth aren't in the greatest shape.

But I do have 6 years sober today.

Weekend times of fun. Saturday Rene, Scheid and I went and gave last minute hanging help to Buzzelli.

Check out that insane pod pile.

Closet full of Neckface!

Oh yeah, we also had Flat Stanley with us. Flat Stanley was mailed to David from his Niece in Ohio. Flat Stanley got flattened by a chalkboard, and as the story goes he realized how easy it is to travel when you're flat. He mailed himself to California where David will document his trip with photographs and then mail him back to Ohio. So yeah, this is Flat Stanley helping to hang an art show.

The Kime Buzzelli! Congratulations!

Flat Stanley was a hit with the ladies. The next day he and David flew to NY to start a tour. This time next week Flat Stanley will be sunning his buns in Miami.

The show was a smashing success. At this point Betsy and I are getting ready to cut out, as we have plans to head over to our favorite eatery, the Souplantation!

I will spare you the gory details. Well done Kime! So long Flat Stanley!

This is a preview of Kime Buzzelli's show 'Lovesick And Vanishing'. It's happening tomorrow night at New Image Gallery and it is totally bonkers.
Saturday March 24
7908 Santa Monica Blvd.
7-10 PM

These awesome trees are in bloom around town. They look like wet paper mache'.
We headed down to Choke, the new motorcycle/espresso place for the Susan Cianciolo fashion show/film.

And Travis Graves aka Mt. Egypt was there! I love that guy!

The movie was playing outside on a loop. No Age soundtrack. Produced by Randy Randall. It was pretty great to stand outside watching this movie in a motorcycle part graveyard on a bad block and watching the fancier fashion types roll up and wonder.

Excellent free tacos!

Jaded at 21 / Hungry Mid-Westerner.

Definitely check out Choke. It's on Normal and Virgil. The owner Jeff is super nice and he might just make the best espresso i've had in LA.

Tonight @ Choke there is a Susan Cianciolo jammer w/ No Age. I don't really know any details, other than it's at 7pm, and I will be there.

300 matinee.

Chinatown.

Wishing well.

The master of Ooga Booga, Wendy Yao.

Holy crap.

My ride.

David's ride.

Somebody got a new hairdo!

Nina at Lucas did the honors. Well done!

The Sads are coming, and they sound amazing. There is even an Unsane cover in the mix. I can't think of a more perfect band to cover the Unsane.

Sack of potatos!

Cosima gets her tiny ear protectors on for the Ian Svenonious slide show at Family.

Blondes, having more fun.

It was pretty great, the slideshow. Four volunteers read from a script while Ian worked the slide projector and did some narration. It was like a live movie! Is it coming to your town? Go! Also, I was stoked because Calvin Johnson bought both a Sads record and a Soiled Mattress record. I saw Calvin play with Beat Happening in like 1989 in LA. There were over 500 people there, as that was the nature of 'punk' shows in LA at the time. I think that other than Myself, my brother and 20 or 30 older people, everyone really, really hated them. They stood there and played thier entire set calmly taking heavy, heavy abuse. I saw these two brothers, they were mexican nazi skinheads (seriously!), firing glass ashtrays at the band, eventually hitting Calvin and splitting his head open.
Beat Happening! I was impressed!

Another excellent night at Family.

Followed by another gorgeous slice of pizza. Viva Pizza!

We went to a panel / documentary / book release for Sister Corita Kent. If you are unfamiliar with her awesome story, teaching style, and work, you would do well to check it out. She taught at Immaculate Heart and was constantly getting reprimanded for her liberal ways because, well, she was a nun.

Aimee and Aaron. It was around 90 degrees and the time change had just happened. Suddenly Summer! This went down at The American Film Institute, which is such an awesome property that I may just start hanging around up there for the view/vibe.

Big fan of Nun Art, Daniel Monick.

Big fan of comfort, Rene Navarette.

The discussion and movie and hang took a couple of hours, and was a total inspiration. We all walked down the hill to Immaculate Heart to buy the awesome new book about Sister Corita by Julie Ault. There was also tons of Corita originals hanging up to check out!

Awesome! I have driven past Immaculate Heart for years and never realized what an amazing collection is housed inside. Up until a few years ago you could walk in and buy an original serigraph for like $50 bucks. Unbelievable!

Big news for today.
Did you set your clocks forward for the new extra long Summer?
Rene and I are going to a panel discussion on the life of Sister Corita Kent today.
Jessica Hopper is here in Los Angeles for 'This American Life', which I wound up not buying tickets for as 400.00 for a pair was out of my league. If you can afford to buy those sold out bad boys, I highly recommend it!
And tonight, at Family, you should probably definitely do this-

Date night. Soup Plantation.

Delicious.

Mellow week so far. I have been feeling wistful for my early teenage years which is ridiculous since everyone knows that there is nothing worse than your teenage years.

I did, however, eat shit on this ramp and I must say, it was nice to feel that kind of pain.

Check it out! The proof for the No Age cover! Everything is getting printed! I hope to have these jammies on the street in 3 weeks.
And another thing. If you live in the Poulsbo/Bainbridge Island area of Washington State, wish my brother Pat a happy birthday! He is 32, and will probably be drunk for the near future. He likes to stretch his legs out on his birthday.
And Anton, I love you buddy. You know why.

Did you see the eclipse?

Dan Monick stunk up th Smell last night with some kind of shrimp dumplings. Also, I hadn't noticed this in the past, but it takes him well over an hour to eat a meal.

Luis Farfan fanning out on The Sads.

No Age was one of the many reasons everyone was there.

A between song love connection?

Betsy plays it cool while Lil' Nate gets busted.

Everybody getting pumped for the main event! Barr as a band! The new Barr record is one of two vital jammers of the new year. I have been listening to it everyday for a month.

Pay attention to the shedding of layers.

When you get the record, you will know what I mean, but the show is an awesome extension of the record, a continued catharsis thing that is very honest and daring and private. You should go. You should see it for yourself.

Date night! We went to the dentist together. This is Dr. Nagjee, who has saved more than a few teeth.

He listens to Pink Floyd constantly and tells jokes that usually make very little sense.

Betsy wasn't so into me taking pictures at this point.

Then we headed over to meet Beth at what is fast becoming the hottest spot for adult LA nightlife, Family. They were hosting a 'wake' for Arthur Magazine.

Next week Ian Svenonious is doing some kind of slide show thing for his book, 'The Psychic Soviet'!

Sammy Harkam, wish wizard.

Jay Babcock says "Thank you and good night" to Arthur. It is a shame to see such an awesome and different and FREE magazine bite the dust.

Matzah and David, matching pals.

Cosimay! The loose translation means 'cosmos' and 'order'.

Proud Papa Cundo. Mom Christina was at pottery class. I like the idea of having parents whose former bands include Slant 6, Wrangler Brutes, Casual Dots and Nazti Skins, among others.

You can be sure this one is going to be raised right.

So much radicalness to get to this week, but first things first. Betsy and I are going to the dentist today. Hopefully he will yard some of the more useless tooth hunks out of my poor mouth.
